The User Research Round-up: CW27
Sample sizes, strategies for impact, wasting research, AI experimentation, + insights-led culture
Hello curious human!
It’s 32°C (aka 90°F) here in Jersey and it’s only 9:30am. We’re officially in “why do I exist without aircon” territory. Tragically, I’m still stuck with a fractured toe (yes, the sandal is ugly, yes, I’m mad about it) and all I can do is stare longingly at the ocean.
But you know what’s keeping me from going full gremlin?

Schools of Thought on Sample Sizes in UX Research (Article) by Jeff Sauro and Jim Lewis
This piece is a rare thing: a breakdown of sample size logic that doesn’t make you want to cry or quit your job. Sauro and Lewis walk through the major “schools” of thinking, statistical, decision-driven, and estimation-based, so you can actually make choices with more than just guesswork or gut. I liked how it lays out the trade-offs without preaching. It’s the kind of article you bookmark for your next team debate or when you need to defend your numbers with something stronger than “I read it once in a Slack thread.”
